Biography
Asif Shakoor, MD was born in Pakistan and emigrated to the United States in 1979. He lived in Brooklyn, NY which formed the mold for his intellectual and cultural development. He attended Brooklyn College which became the spark of his imagination and paved the path to his intellectual and poetic journey. Writing poetry has been his way of shedding light on the fundamental question of meaningful existence and our conscious human relationship with Nature and the world. Let There Be Light in Darkness is his first poetic work that took 25 years to complete. He is a Sufi mystic that seeks meaning and purpose in life to bring grace and harmony to the human spirit.
He is currently a full-time physician, teacher, artist and collects antique books. He uses poetry and art as powerful tools to heal the ailing soul in hardship of time. His poetic wisdom is simple and deeply human. The spiritual nature of his poetic words echo the silent wisdom of life, which is frail, ever-changing, and bound to the human experience.
